Charlie Baylis: a poem in three colours

three green witches walking

three green witches walking through green mist
three green witches walking naked over beaches
three green witches walking rings of jade on ring fingers

blue-green mint and basil leaves
midnight under moonlight
the man on the moon dropping dreams into the water

the branches have rhythm: sway within them
three green witches walking
i pick out dahlias for my daughter

ice cold milk, spiral of hair
the witches cut off my ring finger
drink my blood, my green blood

the witches lick my wounds, sew-up my finger
breathe starlight into the caesura
we share a wish for my daughter

into the green night, she goes walking.

three white witches walking

three white witches walking through white mist
three white witches walking naked over beaches
three white witches walking rings of pearl on ring fingers

wild garlic and snowberries
midnight under moonlight
the man on the moon dropping dreams into the water

the branches have rhythm: sway within them
three white witches walking
i pick out lilies for my daughter

ice cold milk, spiral of hair
the witches cut off my ring finger
drink my blood, my white blood

the witches lick my wounds, sew-up my finger
breathe starlight into the caesura
we share a wish for my daughter

into the white night, she goes walking.

three blue witches walking

three blue witches walking through blue mist
three blue witches walking naked over beaches
three blue witches walking ring of topaz on ring fingers

blue butterfly bushes and eucalyptus leaves
midnight under moonlight
the man on the moon dropping dreams into the water

the branches have rhythm: sway within them
three blue witches walking
i pick out kingfishers for my daughter

ice cold milk, spiral of hair
the witches cut off my ring finger
drink my blood, my blue blood

the witches lick my wounds, sew-up my finger
breathe starlight into the caesura
we share a wish for my daughter

into the blue night, she goes walking.
